Anthony Armstrong is released

August, 30, 2013
The Dallas Cowboys released wide receiver Anthony Armstrong.

The move will become official Saturday, the day NFL teams must cut their rosters from 75 to 53 players.

When Armstrong becomes official he doesn't have to go through waivers to sign with another team. He's an immediate free agent.

Armstrong's release leads to speculation that the Cowboys could go with five wide receivers. Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, Cole Beasley, Terrance Williams and Dwayne Harris are projected as the receivers who will make the 53-man roster.

The Cowboys have some health issues along the offensive and defensive lines and the team could go deep at those positions for the first week of the season until certain players become healthy enough to play in Week 1.

Armstrong could return to the Cowboys after the first week of the regular season.
Calvin Watkins joined in September 2009. He's covered the Cowboys since 2006 and also has covered colleges, boxing and high school sports.
