IRVING, Texas -- Barry Church didn’t have to think long about the last time he scored a touchdown in a game.

“My freshman year (at Toledo) I took a pick 84 yards for a touchdown against Kansas on ESPN,” Church said.

Church’s 27-yard fumble return for a score was the Cowboys’ first of two defensive touchdowns in their 36-31 win against the Giants. Church’s perfect scoop-and-score technique was something the Cowboys coaches loved to see considering all the time the defenders spent picking up loose balls in practices in the spring and summer.

Church also forced a David Wilson fumble on New York’s second possession and finished with eight tackles.

For Church, just being on the field was memorable. After earning the starting job in 2012, he played in only three games because of a torn Achilles.

“Words can’t describe it,” Church said. “It’s just so great to play a game I love with my teammates. They have my back. I have their back. Words can’t describe it, but it’s a great feeling.”
