A weekly examination of the Cowboys’ ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 20 | Last week: 13 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
With back-to-back wins for the first time this season, the Dallas Cowboys have moved into the top 10 of the ESPN.com Power Rankings.
According to the rankings, the Cowboys are the fifth-best team in the NFC, trailing the Seattle Seahawks (No. 4), New Orleans Saints (No. 5), San Francisco 49ers (No. 6) and Green Bay Packers (No. 9). Mike Sando, Dan Graziano and Jamison Hensley showed the most faith in the Cowboys, putting them at No. 10. Kevin Seifert and John Clayton remain somewhat skeptical, putting them at No. 12.
The Cowboys can help change the minds of Seifert and Clayton with a win this week.
They face the No. 11 Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Sunday in a game that does not have the same importance of a division game but could offer wild-card implications.
The Cowboys’ win last week against the Philadelphia Eagles was their first on the road this season, and they will be looking for consecutive road victories for the first time since last season, when they beat the Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals in Weeks 10 and 14.
The Cowboys are in the middle of a stretch in which they play four of five games away from AT&T Stadium, so a win Sunday at Ford Field would do more than help their Power Ranking. It also would help their confidence, knowing they can go on the road and beat solid teams.
