IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys are the highest-revenue team in the NFL, but they will not be adding to those coffers with Michael Sam practice-squad jerseys.
According to a high-ranking team source, the Cowboys will not make Sam jerseys available in the team's pro shops.
The Cowboys have made the arrival of Sam, who is seeking to become the first openly gay athlete to play in the NFL, all about football. Coach Jason Garrett kept his answers only to the field when asked about the historical importance of the team signing Sam and if the team offers the right environment for Sam to succeed.
If you want a No. 46 Sam jersey, you can make your own online but run the risk of Sam not being with the Cowboys long, considering the transient nature of the practice squad, or changing numbers if he gets called up to the active roster.
The Cowboys only mass produce jerseys for players with a long track record and/or who will have a long future with the club. They have never made jerseys for practice squad players.
