DeMarco Murray feels fine after 'most physical game'
“That was probably the most physical game I’ve ever been a part of,” Murray said after the overtime win.
The Cowboys’ running game sputtered for the first time since Murray became the backfield’s lead horse. With fullback Tony Fiammetta inactive due to an undisclosed illness, the Cowboys gained only 89 yards on 32 carries.
Murray finished with 73 yards on 25 carries. That matched his career high in carries and was his lowest yardage total in five games as the Cowboys’ primary back. His per-carry average for the season dipped from 6.7 to 6.0.
Murray’s long run against the Redskins was 8 yards. To put that in perspective, he gained at least 10 yards on 17 of 72 carries in the previous four games. He kept thinking he’d pop one against Washington, but it never happened.
“There were a few times that I definitely should have and it was all on me,” Murray said. “My offensive line and [John Phillips] did an awesome job blocking and I just wasn’t able to make that guy miss. Three or four times, I definitely should have broken a big one.”
Despite the pounding he took, Murray insisted that his body felt fresh Sunday evening. He doesn’t anticipate any problems with the quick turnaround for the Thanksgiving game against the Miami Dolphins.
“I feel great,” Murray said, flashing a smile after a tough day. “I could probably play tomorrow.”
