Jerry adamant about landing fight
By Jeff Caplan
Before leaving for New Orleans Saturday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones ducked into Cowboys Stadium to see how the place looked for today's 1 p.m. college basketball game between No. 2 Texas and No. 10 North Carolina. It's the first basketball game played at the palace with the 2010 NBA All-Star Game on tap next in February.
On March 13, Jones said still holds high hopes that Cowboys Stadium will be the site of the mega-bout between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Jones believes the hype surrounding that fight at his place would be astronomical.
"That’s the way it works, you can transcend the sport and improve when you meld, if you will, brands," Jones said. "And certainly, this stadium is inextricably associated with the NFL, the Cowboys, and a great fight of this magnitude and this stature, it would, in my mind, enhance viewership of even pay-per-view with the promotion of the fight at this stadium. That’s the art of the deal."
Jones said he has no new update on where the two camps stand in terms of selecting a venue.
"I’m not for sure about where they are in their agreements," Jones said, "but we’re very much interested and involved."
