John Phillips to have surgery Tuesday
By Calvin Watkins
IRVING -- When the Cowboys officially cut their roster down to 75 on Tuesday they will also place tight end John Phillips on injured reserve.
Phillips will undergo surgery on Tuesday for a torn ACL, suffered in the preseason opener vs. the Cincinnati Bengals.
Phillips' absence has created some room for two players, fullback Chris Gronkowski and tight end Martin Rucker.
There's a chance the Cowboys would use two tight ends, Martellus Bennett and Jason Witten and two fullbacks, Deon Anderson and Gronkowski.
If Rucker can do some positive things in the preseason finale vs. Miami, then the Cowboys might stick with one fullback.
Update: The team announced it released wide receiver Terrell Hudgins and Scott Sicko on Monday. The team has until Tuesday at 3 p.m. CT to make three more roster moves.
It's expected that Stephen Hodge will remain on the PUP, as the fourth move, and of course, Phillips will get put on IR.
