Cowboys talk about Pats' special teams
By Calvin Watkins
IRVING, Texas -- Monday night the New England Patriots blocked a field goal and a punt and returned the second-half kickoff for a touchdown in their victory over the Miami Dolphins.
If anything, it could be treated as a wake-up call to any special teams unit to be careful. The Dolphins fired their special teams coordinator due to the problems in Monday's game and for some other issues in previous weeks.
Cowboys special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis stresses to his group every week about being fundamentally sound, but on Wednesday he spoke to his group about making plays much like the Patriots.
The Cowboys have not blocked a punt or field goal this season and their longest punt return was Dez Bryant's 62-yard touchdown. The longest kick return was a 40-yarder by Akwasi Owusu-Ansah.
"We look at all those things sure," coach Wade Phillips said. "But it's more positive note than a negative note in a way to present things."
