Mike Jenkins gears up for another challenge

By Calvin Watkins

IRVING, Texas -- You can say the Cowboys have faced some talented quarterbacks recently, going against Peyton Manning, Michael Vick and Drew Brees in the last four weeks.

But the talent at wideout has also been just as good.

The Cowboys secondary has allowed a receiver to get at least 100 yards the last four weeks.

And it's not just big name players such as Santana Moss who have done it. Moss did catch eight passes for 72 yards in the Redskins' loss to the Cowboys last week, but Anthony Armstrong had five catches for 100 yards.

On Saturday night, the Cowboys face another challenge when Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald takes on cornerback Mike Jenkins.

On the year, Fitzgerald is eighth in the NFL with 78 catches and 10th in yards with 986.

It's just another top receiver for Jenkins, who has just one interception on the year.

"They're all elite," Jenkins said of some of the receivers he's faced in recent weeks. "You got to give them respect and they do their thing every Sunday. You got to respect them but at the same time we got to handle our business."

In the last two days, players and coaches around the league voted on the Pro Bowl rosters. Jenkins was an alternate last year and expressed some frustration with that. He had a team-leading five interceptions along with 23 pass breakups.

He's not making as many plays on the ball this year and seems to be a step or two behind things. In the first meeting with the Eagles, Jenkins went for a pass breakup and missed the ball by inches. It allowed DeSean Jackson to catch the pass and race for a 91-yard touchdown.

"I never take it for granted," Jenkins said of the Pro Bowl. "I'm not playing to go to the Pro Bowl, but of course I'm trying to be the kind of player to elevate my team. Hopefully I can play good enough to be that guy and help my team win."
