Prince coming to Dallas next week
By Calvin Watkins
Prince is coming to Dallas.
Well, not the real Prince. We're talking about Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara.
The Cowboys have visited with 20-plus draft-eligible prospects this week and will meet with Dallas/Fort Worth area players Friday.
Amukamara is scheduled to visit the Cowboys next week.
NFL teams are allowed up to 30 college visits from players outside of the area, and the Cowboys are under that limit. Amukamara, who was projected to go with the Cowboys early in the draft process, has since dropped on several mock drafts, including the ones of Mel Kiper and Todd McShay.
But Amukamara could fill a need at the cornerback spot for the Cowboys.
There is nothing wrong with Terence Newman, Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick returning as cornerbacks again in 2011, but if the team can add some depth to the spot with a younger player -- who most likely will be cheaper than Newman -- the team might be willing to do it.
Dallas has seen Amukamara work out at his Pro Day and spoken to him several times, but this personal visit with the Cowboys' coaches and front office staff is important. If the Cowboys are thinking of getting a corner, he might be available to them at No. 9.
If the team decides to move down -- and Jerry Jones has said he's been approached by two NFL teams -- getting Amukamara won't be a bad idea.
