David Buehler responds to Jerry Jones
By Calvin Watkins
IRVING -- Earlier this month, Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones questioned the conditioning of kicker David Buehler. The Cowboys placed Buehler on injured reserve Nov. 10 with a torn muscle in his groin. It's the second time this season Buehler has suffered a groin injury. He missed four games because of a previous groin injury.
But he suffered another groin injury during a practice after returning from the first groin injury. The second groin injury resulted in black and blue marks for the kicker in his thigh area.
Buehler didn't want to get into a verbal spat with Jones, but said, "I am in shape," when asked about Jones' comments.
Before his season ended, Buehler didn't attempt any field goals, he was slated as the long field goal kicker, but on 18 kickoffs he had nine touchbacks.
"It's defintely frustrating dealing with this," Buehler said of his health. "I was never really 100 percent since I came back from the 49ers and I was trying to get it as close to 100 percent as possible. All injuries are frustrating and it's frustrating not being able to be out on that field. So I'm doing everything I can to get healthy and get right. I was doing everything before I re-tore it. Just trying to get right and it's frustrating not being where I want to be physically."
Now here's what Jones said about Buehler a few weeks ago on KRLD-FM: "Let me just say this: I’m frustrated because you would expect players – and I understand injury – but he has known all along how to prepare and how to get in shape and how to prepare himself and be ready to be a kicker. It’s frustrating to have your kicker injured."
