Dan Bailey wins game, closes in on mark
By Todd Archer
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Ho-hum, Dan Bailey wins another game with a field goal.
For the third time this season, Bailey carried the Cowboys to a win with his right leg, connecting on a 28-yarder to beat Miami 20-19 on Thursday at Cowboys Stadium.
He hit a 40-yarder late in the third quarter, his sixth of the game, to beat Washington 18-16 on Sept. 26 at Cowboys Stadium. And his 39-yarder in overtime last week beat the Redskins at FedEx Field.
“It’s my job to go out there and make field goals,” Bailey said. “I just go out there and try to go one-for-one and do my best.”
Bailey is now 26 for his last 26 with two more makes against the Dolphins. He made a 32-yarder in the second quarter.
He needs one more make to tie Chris Boniol, his kicking coach, for the team record. Boniol made 27 straight in 1996. Bailey has equaled the second-best streak in team history, also held by Boniol, which he set in 1995.
“It’s not something I’m concerned with now,” Bailey said of the record. “It’s good to get a win today. We’ve got a little time off and we’re going to have to come back and keep this thing rolling. As far as the record and stuff like that, I’m not too concerned about.”
