With little work, DeMarcus Ware feels ready

By Todd Archer

ARLINGTON, Texas -- DeMarcus Ware played in only one preseason game because of a hamstring strain, but the All-Pro outside linebacker pronounced himself ready to go for the regular-season opener at the New York Giants.

“If I had to, I’d be ready for Sept. 5,” Ware said.

That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement of feeling 100 percent, and hamstring injuries can linger. Just ask Miles Austin from last year when two different hamstring pulls cost him six games.

But Ware, who is entering his eighth season and has not missed a game in his career, knows what the New York Giants will bring to slow him down.

“Sometimes you gotta get out there and get a feel and get comfortable with what’s going on,” Ware said. “It’s not like I haven’t played the Giants before and don’t know what they’re doing. I think in this game it’s more of a mental game and preparing and knowing what to do. The physical part will take care of itself.”
