Murray was officially ruled out after not practicing this week. The hope is he can return next week against the New York Giants but the club does not have a timetable on a possible return. Murray is in a protective boot and getting around on a scooter of sorts at the team’s Valley Ranch facility.
With Murray out, Felix Jones will make his first start of the season. Jones had 92 yards on 18 carries last week at Baltimore, including a 22-yard touchdown run.
In addition to Murray, defensive end Sean Lissemore (ankle) and safety Matt Johnson (hamstring) have been ruled out. Johnson suffered his injury during Friday’s practice and continues to be slowed by leg injuries. He missed almost all of training camp with a left hamstring and then hurt his right hamstring in his lone preseason game Aug. 25 vs. St. Louis. He aggravated the left hamstring on Friday, two days before he was set to make his debut.
Center Ryan Cook is questionable with a hamstring injury, but he has not practiced in two weeks.
