Peprah, a Plano native, was one of 15 players who worked out for the Cowboys two weeks ago. He was cut by Green Bay in July after he failed his physical because of a knee injury.

Peprah had two stints with the Packers from 2006-08 and 2010-11. He started 26 games in five seasons.

To sign Peprah, the Cowboys would have to make a roster move. Among the candidates:

* The Cowboys currently have two punters on the roster, Chris Jones and Brian Moorman.

* The Cowboys also have some health issues in the interior of the offensive line. Center Phil Costa (sprained ankle) could miss 4-6 weeks and might be placed on injured reserve if team officials don't believe he can recover in time for a return this season.

* Rookie safety Matt Johnson also has struggled with hamstring injuries since training camp and hasn't played this season. He could be placed on IR to make room for Peprah.
