Cowboys waste record day by Jason Witten
By Tim MacMahon
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Eighteen wasn't enough for Jason Witten.
Witten's 18 receptions in the 29-24 loss to the Giants set an NFL record for tight ends and tied for third most for any position. The receptions total also broke Witten's franchise record.
Witten's 167 yards were the most by a tight end in franchise history and the 20th most by a tight end in NFL history.
Witten now has 51 catches this season, his ninth consecutive 50-catch season. Tony Gonalez (14) is the only tight end with more.
And Witten has 747 catches in his career, just three shy of Michael Irvin's franchise record.
"At this point in your career, you're not worried about that," Witten said of all the impressive individual stats.
All Witten was worried about after the game was the fact that the Cowboys lost to fall to 3-4.
