How will Cowboys divvy up ILB snaps?
By Todd Archer
IRVING, Texas – Last week the Cowboys had to figure out how to replace Sean Lee, whose season ended with a toe injury. This week the Cowboys have to figure out how to replace Lee’s replacement, Dan Connor, who is not expected to play against Atlanta because of a stinger.
They went the committee approach last week with Orie Lemon subbing for Connor in the base defense and Ernie Sims playing when the Cowboys were leaning toward pass coverage. That changed on the New York Giants’ final drive that ended in a three and out with Sims, who was signed five days before the game, taking over in the base defense.
Lemon played in 23 snaps against the New York Giants, and Sims played in 10.
“Playing against the Giants I’ve got a lot of confidence,” said Lemon, who was credited with four tackles. “I didn’t go in scored or nothing. It was a little easier than practice so I was able to go in ther and do what I do best, play football.”
Easier in a game?
“Practice is a little harder,” Lemon said. “It’s a little bit more just running around with your teammates, more checks and everything because what they’re trying to do is throw at you the hardest things so it’s easier for you in games.”
