Kyle Wilber ready to earn his letter Sunday
By Todd Archer
IRVING, Texas – Kyle Wilber has two tackles this season, but the rookie linebacker figures to play more Sunday against Philadelphia than he has all season.
With injuries at the inside linebacker position, Wilber will play in the sub packages at inside linebacker, a position he has never played before.
“He’ll have his letter after this game,” defensive coordinator Rob Ryan said. “We’ll put a big D on his shirt. I mean, the kid’s got to come through for us. These guys, it’s baptism under fire. He’s going to be fine. All of these guys have answered the call for us. We believe in everybody on our roster, and this young man is going to step up and do great.”
Wilber has spent the week learning from linebackers coach Matt Eberflus, but he has stayed late with Sean Lee, going over the nuances of the position.
“He’s been unbelievable asking questions, studying, working on the practice field, looking at the film trying to learn the defense as much as possible,” Lee said. “He’s a talented guy with a great work ethic and that’s a great combination to have.”
Wilber’s rookie season started slowly because of finger and hand surgeries. He has played in seven games and seen only nine snaps on defense.
“It’s not that much different but backer to us is backer,” Wilber said. “We’ve got to learn each other positions and the next man has to step up.”
