Play of the day: Will Allen's pick
OXNARD, Calif. – On Sunday, Sean Lee had the play of the day by picking off a tipped pass. On Monday, the takeaways continued for the Cowboys’ defense with a Will Allen interception of Tony Romo.
Romo looked deep for Miles Austin on a throw across the field after a waggle to the right, but Allen was able to make a quick adjustment on Austin, who was open. Austin leaped for the ball, but Allen was able to tip it clear and come down with the turnover.
“It’s practice, man,” said Allen, the free-agent pickup from Pittsburgh, who has been running with the first team. “That’s the way I look at it. It counts in the games. Yes, it’s good to get a pick in practice and that helps you get ready for games, but it’s just practice. The money counts on Sundays.”
That the first two Plays of the Day have been defensive takeaways is an encouraging thing considering how much the defensive staff has emphasized it from the offseason to training camp.
After Allen’s pick, secondary coach Jerome Henderson had a message: “Come on, get it again.”
