George Selvie makes positive impression

By Todd Archer

OXNARD, Calif. – At 3 a.m. PT, George Selvie was boarding a plane in Pensacola, Fla. By 4 p.m. PT, he was in a Cowboys jersey ready for practice.

“I landed, got a physical, signed a contract and was ready to work,” Selvie said. “I’ve been sitting too long, so it’s time to get at it.”

The Cowboys signed Selvie because of injuries to defensive linemen Anthony Spencer, Tyrone Crawford and Ike Igbinosun. Selvie was cut by Tampa Bay in May and has been waiting for a call ever since. He had 10 tackles and a sack in nine games for Jacksonville last year.

How long he stays will depend on how well he plays. Spencer is out 2-4 weeks with upcoming knee surgery and Crawford is out for the year. Igbinosun hurt his ankle and is in a boot.

He was in on a number of plays, despite only knowing the rudimentary basics of the defense.

“I’ve been playing a 4-3,” Selvie said. “I played in a similar defensive line that’s coach Rod (Marinelli’s) style.”
