Kiffin not expecting full-time Spencer

By Todd Archer

ARLINGTON, Texas – Defensive end Anthony Spencer had knee surgery on July 25 and started running this week, but he was not among the Dallas Cowboys regulars to go through a series of sprints at AT&T Stadium before Thursday’s 24-6 loss to Houston.

Spencer has consistently said he will be ready to play in the regular-season opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 8.

But how much will he be able to play?

Cowboys defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin is not so sure.

“Even if Anthony is ready, he sure won’t be ready play 60 something plays that’s for darn sure,” Kiffin said. “Certainly he’ll be back for some.”

The Cowboys will have two starters that did not take a preseason snap in Spencer and cornerback Morris Claiborne. Projected defensive tackle Jay Ratliff was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list and will miss at least the first six games.
