Cowboys' Tony Romo not on practice field

By Todd Archer

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was not on the practice field Monday during the portion of the session open to the media, two days after he was sacked three times and hit once more in a 25-20 preseason loss to the Miami Dolphins.

After the game, Romo said he felt good after taking his first hits since undergoing back surgery last December. He spent time in a cold tub after the game, which is something he has not done before.

The Cowboys close the preseason Thursday against the Denver Broncos and Romo has not played in a preseason finale since becoming the Cowboys' starting quarterback. Brandon Weeden took the first team snaps in Romo's absence on Monday.

Cornerback Morris Claiborne (shoulder) and defensive tackle Henry Melton (groin) took first-team snaps on defense. Neither has played in the preseason and could see limited action against the Broncos.

Defensive end George Selvie (shoulder), defensive tackle Terrell McClain (ankle), receiver Dwayne Harris (hip, ankle), running back Joseph Randle (oblique), tackle Darrion Weems (shoulder), tight end Jordan Najvar (Achilles), cornerback B.W. Webb (hip flexor), safety Jakar Hamilton (hamstring), safety Matt Johnson (hamstring) and safety Johnny Thomas are also sitting out practice.
