Cowboys take chance on Brian Price

December, 31, 2012
IRVING, Texas -- The Cowboys have signed 10 players to futures contracts, including former second-round pick Brian Price, who was out of football this year.

Price, a defensive tackle, was the 35th overall pick by Tampa Bay in 2010 but his career has been stalled by injury and misfortune. He needed radical pelvis surgeries after his rookie year to keep his hamstrings attached to his pelvis. His sister died last spring in a car accident, and he also reportedly had an incident with Mark Barron in a meeting room.

He started 14 games in 2011 and had three sacks. He was traded to Chicago last summer but was among the Bears’ final cuts and did not sign with another team during the year.

Price is an intriguing signing because he is still young and the Cowboys have defensive line issues going forward with Jay Ratliff’s health and Josh Brent’s intoxication manslaughter charge.

The Cowboys also signed practice squad players cornerback Vince Agnew, wide receiver Tim Benford, defensive end Ike Igbinosun, cornerback Micah Pellerin, linebacker Brashton Satele, tight end Andre Smith and linebacker Monte Taylor to future deals. Wide receiver Danny Coale, a fifth-round pick this year, was also re-signed. He is coming back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

The Cowboys also signed quarterback Nick Stephens, a Flower Mound native. He started his career at Tennessee before transferring to Tarleton State.

The only practice squad player not to re-sign yet is wide receiver Andre Holmes

Cowboys released practice squad DT Robert Rose

December, 18, 2012
The Cowboys released defensive tackle Robert Rose from the practice squad on Tuesday.

Rose, 6-4, 291 pounds, was signed last week.

The Cowboys have seven players on the practice squad: Wide receiver Andre Holmes, wide receiver Tim Benford, cornerback Vince Agnew, safety Micah Pellerin, linebacker Brashton Satele, guard Ronald Leary and tight end Andrew Smith.

NFL teams can have a maximum of eight players on a practice squad.

Update: The Cowboys signed 6-4, 288 pound defensive end Ike Igbinosun to fill the vacant practice squad spot Tuesday afternoon. He was with the Pittsburgh Steelers in training camp until he was released on Aug. 31.

And don't think Igbinosun's first name is Ike. It's Ikponmwosa.

Cowboys claim CB Michael Coe

December, 11, 2012
IRVING, Texas -- The Cowboys claimed cornerback Michael Coe off waivers from Miami to get a more veteran backup and waived Vince Agnew.

Coe played in one game with Miami before his release and in seven games with the New York Giants. Coe has played in 35 games with 19 tackles, four pass deflections and two fumble recoveries with the Giants, Indianapolis, Jacksonville and Miami.

Agnew played in four games after he was called up from the practice squad.

The Cowboys have also re-tooled their practice squad, adding tight end Andre Smith, defensive lineman Robert Rose, linebacker Brashton Satele and cornerback Micah Pellerin. The Cowboys released cornerback Reggie Jones and tight end Chase Ford from the practice squad.

Satele spent part of the offseason with the Cowboys before his release in May.

Cowboys cut LB Brashton Satele

May, 7, 2012
IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys released linebacker Brashton Satale on Wednesday, leaving them with 87 players on the roster, three under the limit.

Satele signed with the Cowboys on Jan. 12 and had been taking part in the offseason conditioning program.

This move could lead to three players that were at the rookie minicamp over the weekend on a tryout basis leading to be signed. The Cowboys liked what linebacker-turned-fullback Jamize Olawale showed in the three days of practice. The North Texas product is a candidate to be added to the roster.

The Cowboys had 15 players in on a tryout basis for the camp to go with the seven draft picks, 22 undrafted free agents and four players from last year’s practice squad.

Cowboys add Brashton Satele

January, 13, 2012
IRVING, Texas -- The Cowboys have signed their eighth player of the offseason to a “futures” contract in inside linebacker Brashton Satele.

Satele, 6-0, 248 pounds, worked out for the Cowboys in December at which time they also worked out outside linebacker Baraka Atkins, whom they signed this week.

Satele was among the New York Jets final cuts in 2011 after spending the previous season on the practice squad. He started nine of 35 games at Hawaii but did not play as a senior because of a shoulder injury.

With Bradie James and Keith Brooking set to become free agents, the Cowboys lack depth behind Sean Lee and Bruce Carter. The only other inside linebacker is Orie Lemon, who spent the year on the practice squad.
