ARLINGTON, Texas -- Boxing promoter Bob Arum will meet with Jerry Jones on Wednesday to finalize a deal to bring a Manny Pacquiao fight to Cowboys Stadium.
Pacquiao would fight Antonio Margarito. It's not the match fight fans would want and besides, Margarito is still suspended in the United States for using illegal hand wraps in a loss to Shane Mosley. Margarito has fought only once since the year-long suspension ended scoring a victory in Mexico.
Arum is hopeful Margarito can get a license in Texas and said they're "in the process" of applying.
The first time Jones got into boxing it was a success as over 50,000 fans attended Pacquiao's fight against Joshua Clottey.
But Arum is banking on Mexican fans to come out to see Margarito, who was booed in here before the Pacquiao-Clottey fight when he got introduced at a weigh-in. Some fans are still upset at Margarito for cheating.
Arum should let Pacquiao take the rest of the year off or give him a better opponent.
The best opponent in this whole deal is Floyd Mayweather who is taking the rest of the year off.
