FORT WORTH, Texas -- Matt Kuchar sank a 9-foot birdie putt on the final hole of his second round to position himself to make the cut at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.
Kuchar, who came to Colonial having made 18 consecutive cuts, finished with a round of 1-under 69 on Friday and is 1-over 141 for 36 holes. The current cut line with the afternoon wave still to play is estimated at 3-over.
Because Kuchar and his playing partners started on No. 10, the closing birdie came at No. 9, a hole that played the most difficult in Thursday’s opening round.
“It’s always good to birdie the last hole, especially one as tough as No. 9,’’ Kuchar said. “As far as the streak of cuts made, I think Steve Stricker had over 40, so I’ve got a long way to go. It’s nice to have a streak like that because it means I’m playing good, consistent golf. But I’d rather have a streak of Top 10s.’’
UPDATE: The cut line wound up at 3-over, keeping Kuchar's streak alive.
