A few golfers in the afternoon wave have not yet finished their rounds.

Palmer, a member at Colonial and a regular in the club’s afternoon "big game," turned in a bogey-free card with eight birdies, including four in a row on Nos. 14-17.

Palmer’s 62 matched the record low first round at Colonial. Patrick Sheehan in 2005 and David Toms and Chez Reavie in 2011 also share the record.

Another Colleyville resident, John Rollins, rolled in 22-foot birdie putt on No. 18 to finish with a 7-under 63, good for solo second.

Morgan Hoffmann, David Hearn and Graham DeLaet are tied for third after matching 6-under 64s.

Another stroke back and tied for sixth with 65s are Matt Kuchar, Daniel Summerhays, Matt Every and Morgan Hoffmann.

Among those at 5-under and still on the course is 19-year-old Jordan Spieth of Dallas.
