North Mesquite can clinch its first playoff berth since 2007 with a win over Mesquite Horn on Friday.
Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Mesquite Memorial Stadium.
The Stallions (5-3, 2-1 District 11-5A) positioned themselves for only their second playoff appearance in the last eight seasons with a 21-point fourth quarter in last week’s 24-14 victory over the Longview Lobos.
Running back Joe Bergeron gained 154 of his 191 rushing yardage in the second half. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound senior scored twice in the fourth quarter. His 9-yard touchdown run with 6:33 remaining gave the Stallions their first lead, and a 27-yarder with 42 seconds on the clock was the clincher.
Bergeron, who committed to University of Texas in February, has gained 1,325 yards and scored 15 touchdowns.
Junior quarterback King Davis began the fourth-quarter rally with a 29-yard touchdown pass to Horace Borders. Davis has thrown for 888 yards and nine touchdowns.
Itr was Borders' sixth catch of the season and his first touchdown reception. Senior Dezmin Lewis leads Stallions receivers with 16 catches for 452 yards and five touchdowns.
The North Mesquite defense that forced two turnovers and three punts against Longview will need another strong performance against Horn (4-4, 1-2.) The Jaguars gained over 500 yards in a 61-47 loss to DeSoto last week.
The Stallions close the regular season with a road game against Tyler Lee on Nov. 5.
