Hebron’s win over Allen last week dramatically changed the playoff picture in the ultra-competitive District 8-5A.

Hebron scored two unanswered touchdowns in the fourth quarter to take a 35-28 win over Allen, which hadn’t lost at home since 2005 and is No. 5 in the ESPNDallas.com Class 5A area poll.

Allen (8-1, 5-1) now needs a win over Flower Mound (7-2, 5-1) on Friday to clinch the district title and the top seed in Division I.

Coupled with Plano’s win over Plano East, Allen’s loss eliminated the possibility of a three-way tie for the final playoff spot. Allen, Flower Mound and Flower Mound Marcus (7-2, 4-2) have clinched a playoff berths.

Hebron (6-3, 4-2) can clinch the final spot with a win over Marcus on Friday or with a Plano (6-3, 3-3) loss. Plano needs a win over Plano West (3-6, 0-6) and a Hebron loss to clinch.

District 8-5A is grouped with District 7-5A in the first round of the playoffs. It creates a number of intriguing first-round possibilities. If Hebron makes the playoffs and Allen loses to Flower Mound, Allen would open the playoffs against No. 2 Coppell.

Denton Guyer and Southlake Carroll have also clinched playoff berths in 7-5A.
