Highland Park girls win cross country state title

Highland Park's girls and Lucas Lovejoy's boys and girls won state titles Saturday at the UIL state cross country meets in Round Rock.

Four area runners won individual state championships: Flower Mound Marcus's Craig Lutz (Class 5A boys), Plano's Rachel Johnson (5A girls), Argyle's Jake Roberts (3A boys) and Lucas Lovejoy's Katie Ruhala (3A girls). Click here for complete results.

5A Boys

Three teams finished in the top 10 in the boys 5A state cross country meet. Southlake Carroll topped the list in area schools finishing second with one runner finishing in the top 20 overall. Flower Mound Marcus finished third with three runners in the top 20 overall. Flower Mound finished ninth in the team standings.

Three area girls teams finished in the top 10 of the 5A meet, lead by Southlake Carroll, finishing third with one runner in the top 20 overall. The Dragons were followed by seventh place Flower Mound with two runners finishing in the top 20 overall and eighth place Plano West, with one runner finishing in the top 20.

Three area boys teams finished in the top 10 of the 4A state meet, with Highland Park leading the pack finishing sixth ahead of Frisco Liberty and Rockwall, finishing eighth and ninth respectively. Both Highland Park and Frisco Libery had one runner finish in the overall top 20.

The 4A girls race produced the area's only team state champion with Highland Park taking first place. The Scots had three runners finish in the overall top 20. Behind the Scots was Fort Worth Boswell finishing fourth and Frisco finishing eighth. Boswell finished with two runners in the top 20 overall.

Lucas Lovejoy took the top spot in the 3A race with one runner finishing in the overall top 20. The other team finishing in the top 10 was Kaufman, taking the fourth spot.

The Lucas Lovejoy girls team also took the top spot in the 3A race follwed by Fort Worth Castlebury and Kaufman, finishing fourth and fifth respectfully. Lovejoy lead the way in the overall top 20 with four runners.
