McKinney Boyd's Meghan Streight was cited Thursday as the 2010-11 Gatorade Texas Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
The award, presented in collaboration with ESPN RISE, recognizes athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.
Streight, a senior defender who has signed with Texas A&M, helped the Broncos compile a 28-1-1 record and win the Class 5A state championship. Streight led a Boyd defense that allowed just 12 goals all season.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Mansfield's Aaron Simmons was named the Gatorade Texas Boys Soccer Player of the Year.
Simmons and Streight are both finalists for Gatorade National Player of the Year awards, which will be handed out later this month.
