Five Metroplex teams will participate in each of the four showcase games of the seventh annual Kirk Herbstreit Classic, to be held Sept. 5 at Cowboys Stadium.
The 7:45 p.m. game features Class 5A state finalist Denton Guyer against ESPN Dallas Spring 5A No. 4 Cedar Hill, in what has become a must-see rivalry between two talented football programs.
The matchup will be the third in two years -- both tallied a win against the other in 2010. Guyer notched the win that counted most, ending Cedar Hill's season in the area round of the 5A Division II playoffs, 48-35. Cedar Hill won the last Herbstreit match, a 42-41 nail-biter.
Before those teams take the field, Arlington Bowie will lead things off by facing New Orleans' Edna Karr at 10 a.m.
That game will be followed by an anticipated game between perennial Florida power Cocoa against a much-improved 5A No. 3 Dallas Skyline at 1:15 p.m. Here is more on this game from an earlier blog post.
Division I 5A state quarterfinalist and No. 7 DeSoto will take on Frederick A. Douglass of Oklahoma City at 4:30 p.m.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and are available through the participating schools. All four games will be broadcast on FSN.
