FORT WORTH, Texas – The UIL announced Monday that Cowboys Stadium will host all of the 11-man state football championships in 2011 on December 9, 15-17. This is the first time in UIL history that all of the 11-man football championships will be held at the same venue.
UIL football championships in both divisions of 3A through 5A were held at Cowboys Stadium last season in front of near record crowds and will now be joined with the 1A and 2A in 2011.
The Class 1A and 2A teams were more than happy to play the state championship games on Thursday to be able to share in the combined championship experience at Cowboys Stadium, UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt said.
There is also a significant financial perk to playing at Cowboys Stadium with all of the revenue from the games going to the participating schools, minus the 15 percent taken by the UIL.
The UIL is currently working with Fox Sports Southwest to have all of the games televised or shown on the Internet, UIL director of athletics Mark Cousins said.
Only the 2011 championships have been locked into Cowboys Stadium and the location of future championships is still up in the air, Cousins said.
