Duncanville, Col. Heritage in Cotton Bowl clash

7:30 p.m. Friday at the Cotton Bowl

When we saw them last: The playoff brackets were not too kind to either team. Duncanville saw its 2010 season come to an end in the area round of the 5A Division I playoffs at the hands of a powerful Coppell team. Colleyville Heritage also lost in the area round, falling to always-tough Southlake Carroll.

2010 result: Colleyville Heritage opened the season with a 58-52 win over Duncanville at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco. The teams combined for 1,080 total yards of offense.

What’s at stake: Confidence going into the long haul of the season. This game, the first of three at the Cotton Bowl this weekend, should be a good measuring stick for both teams.

Key matchup: Duncanville’s offensive line vs. Colleyville Heritage’s pass rush. Heritage’s best chance at staying in this game is for DE Rex Montes to get pressure on Duncanville sophomore QB Tre Harris. If Heritage gives Harris any time, he has highly talented weapons out wide who could pick apart the Heritage defense.

Players to watch: Duncanville WR Jeff Thomas will be Harris’ go-to target this season and could start the season off with a bang against Heritage. Helping Montes out on the Heritage defense will be LB Justin Vallilee.

Prediction: Duncanville 35, Colleyville Heritage 17. Colleyville Heritage won’t have an answer for the offensive firepower Duncanville boasts.
