Lake Dallas, Pearce looking to take next step

By Jeff Andrews

No. 9 LAKE DALLAS at RICHARDSON PEARCE
7:30 p.m. Friday at Eagle-Mustang Stadium

When we saw them last: A disappointing season for Lake Dallas ended in similar fashion, as the Falcons lost to Canyon Randall, 10-6, in bi-district. Pearce’s season ended with a whimper as Frisco Liberty crushed the Mustangs, 70-17, in bi-district.

2010 result: Pearce capped a furious comeback with a field goal as time expired to give the Mustangs a 24-23 win.

What’s at stake: Not much for these two teams trying to claw their way back among the area’s 4A elite. Both would like a win, but playing well and making progress in time for district play would suffice.

Key matchup: Lake Dallas WR Ferrando Joseph vs. Pearce DB Cameron O’Reilly. The Falcons hope Joseph, a converted DB, will add some pop to their offense, but O’Reilly is a tackle machine.

Players to watch: Lake Dallas QB Dalyn Williams is dual-threat with the potential to rush for 1,000 yards. Pearce utility man Corey Coleman will line up all over the field on offense and defense.

Prediction: Lake Dallas 31, Pearce 21.
