Lake Dallas QB getting results but not attention

By Jeff Andrews

This second-year starter leads the area with 3,211 passing yards and is second in passing touchdowns with 30. He’s thrown only four interceptions on the year and completes more than 67 percent of his passes.

Who is it? Allen’s Alec Morris? Southlake Carroll’s Kenny Hill? Whoever is next in line at Flower Mound?

Nope. It’s Lake Dallas’ Dalyn Williams, one of the most improved and most overlooked quarterbacks in the area.

Williams’ hot hand has the Falcons (7-3, 4-2) thinking they can make a run in the playoffs after clinching District 4-4A’s top Division II seed with last week’s 63-34 win over Little Elm. Williams threw for 474 yards and accounted for eight of Lake Dallas’ nine touchdowns.

Last year in his first season at quarterback after playing receiver as a sophomore, his numbers were less than impressive: 1,282 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing less than 50 percent of his passes. Lake Dallas quietly bowed out of the playoffs in the first round against Canyon Randall 10-6.

There’s little chance opponents hold the Falcons to six points this year with the way Williams is playing, and the Falcons have a favorable draw in Region I, which pulls mostly West Texas teams that aren’t accustomed to tricked-up offenses like Lake Dallas’.

Despite barely being a 4A program (enrollment of 1,176), Lake Dallas always seems to have a great quarterback and an explosive offense. Former Falcon James Franklin is currently the starter at Missouri. Chase Baine played in four games for North Texas last year, including two starts.
