Hebron, Lucas Lovejoy win state volleyball titles

Hebron swept through the state volleyball tournament without dropping a game and defeated The Woodlands in the Class 5A championship game Saturday in San Marcos.

Lucas Lovejoy also brought home a state title, beating Wimberley, 25-23, 21-25, 25-10, 25-18, in the 3A final. Lovejoy beat Columbus, 25-13, 25-18, 25-19, Friday in the state semifinals.

Ebony Nwanebu had 15 kills for Lovejoy in the championship match.

Hebron beat Houston Cypress Woods, 25-17, 25-14, 25-18, in Saturday's 5A semifinal then took care of The Woodlands, 25-23, 25-17, 27-25, for the championship. Tiffany Baker had 18 kills for Hebron in the final.

Richardson Pearce and The Colony both reached the state tournament but couldn't advance past the Class 4A semifinals.

Pearce lost in five games to eventual state champion Austin Lake Travis, 25-27, 20-25, 25-12, 25-17, 15-7. The Colony also went five games before falling to Brenham, 23-25, 25-23, 25-19, 17-25, 15-9.
