IRVING, Texas -- Oliver Pierce announced Sunday he will play quarterback next season for Allen. Pierce had 601 yards and six touchdowns as a wide receiver last season for the defending District 8-5A champions.
Pierce takes over for Alec Morris, one of the area's best quarterbacks last season. Morris threw for 3,242 yards and 35 touchdowns and just six interceptions.
Pierce, an OU wrestling commit, worked out with the receivers at Sunday's Nike Football Training Camp event at Valley Ranch, but he said he's ready to take over under center.
"If I had a chance to play football in college, it would be at receiver," Pierce said. "But I'll be playing quarterback next year. No doubt."
He isn't putting the idea of being a two-sport athlete at Oklahoma away just yet.
"I don't know. Hopefully, if [Oklahoma football head coach] Bob Stoops is nice enough," Pierce said. "I'm just trying to have fun at football and see where that takes me. I'm committed to wrestling right now, so I'm just having fun."
