The Cedar Hill girls basketball team finally ran into a fourth-quarter deficit it couldn't overcome in Friday's 54-50 loss to Houston Cypress-Fairbanks in a Class 5A state semifinal at Austin's Frank Erwin Center.

Fourth quarters had been magical throughout the playoff run by Cedar Hill, which outscored five postseason opponents, 102-57.

Cedar Hill (27-7) got the better of Cypress-Fairbanks (35-1) by five points in the fourth period but trailed by nine through three quarters.

The Lady Longhorns were unable to slow Cypress-Fairbanks' 6-3 star Chiney Ogwumike, rated the top senior in the nation by ESPNU HoopGurlz. Ogwumike, a Stanford signee, finished with game highs in points (24) and rebounds (25).

Senior guard Diara Moore, who averaged 24 points a game for Cedar Hill in the playoffs, fouled out with 12 points. Teammate BreAnna Dawkins led the Lady Longhorns with 15 points.

Cedar Hill shot just 29.3 percent from the field.

Cypress-Fairbanks, a state tournament qualifier for the fourth straight year, will face the winner of tonight's Fort Bend Hightower-San Antonio Jay semifinal in Saturday's 8:30 p.m. championship game.

Cedar Hill, a 4A state tournament qualifier in 1996 and '97, was making its first Final Four appearance at the 5A level.
