Mansfield Timberview has already equaled last season’s win total, and District 5-5A play doesn’t even begin for another week.
Credit for the first 3-0 start in school history has to go in large part to Charles Taylor, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound senior quarterback equally dangerous on running or passing plays.
Taylor, who wears No. 13, rushed for 286 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s 42-25 road victory over Arlington, spoiling the Colts' homecoming.
He’s on pace for a 2,000-yard rushing season and has scored seven touchdowns.
As a passer, Taylor has completed 51 percent of his throws for 403 yards and four touchdowns.
Taylor threw for 1,600 yards and 15 touchdowns in his junior season. He is one of 16 returning starters this season for coach Mark Walker.
Timberview’s other victims thus far have been Irving MacArthur (40-33) and Arlington Lamar (35-22).
The Wolves have a bye week this week to prepare for a District 5-5A opener against 3-0 Mansfield on Sept. 23 at Mansfield’s Vernon Newsom Stadium.
