High School: Week 8

Does Allen deserve to stay atop 5A area poll?

October, 22, 2011
There could be movement atop the ESPNDallas.com Class 5A area rankings after Week 8.

The top five teams all remained unbeaten, but three of them had a tough time doing it.

No. 1 Allen scored with under a minute remaining to overtake previously unbeaten and sixth-ranked Flower Mound Marcus 38-35.

No. 3 DeSoto was torched by Mesquite Horn for 53 points, but the Eagles piled up 59 points to keep their record unblemished with an overtime win.

In Thursday action, No. 5 Southlake Carroll overcame another shaky second half to hold off Keller Central 24-21.

Meanwhile, No. 2 Dallas Skyline and No. 4 Euless Trinity delivered dominating wins over outmatched district opponents.

Do you think Allen should be replaced at the top spot? If so, who should take its place.
