Kidd the key to close wins?

Noting that the Mavs win more close games than any team in the league, my man Marc Stein examines whether that stat has any true meaning.

The stat geeks say no. Rick Carlisle says yes, although he acknowledges that there is some luck involved.

I wonder how much credit Jason Kidd ought to get for the Mavs' league-best 24-7 record in games decided by five points or fewer since Carlisle arrived.

You might recall Avery Johnson raving about Kidd's ability to finish games during the press conference after the blockbuster trade with New Jersey. That didn't come to fruition that season, but it has under the new regime.

Whether it will continue is another matter.
