Spurs forward Tim Duncan not only passed Dirk Nowitzki in the final two weeks of fan voting for the 2010 NBA All-Star Game starters, he blew by the Mavericks' leading scorer and first-half MVP, preventing Nowitzki from starting in front of the home crowd at Cowboys Stadium on Feb. 14.
Nowitzki led Duncan throughout the voting process and although his lead had gradually shrunk, Nowitzki still took a 49,905-vote lead into the final two weeks. Yet when voting ceased on Jan. 21 and final tabulatoins were released Thursday evening, a 113,000-vote swing catapulted Duncan past Nowitzki by 63,691 votes.
Mavs owner Mark Cuban immediately took to cyberspace: "No Dirk as a starter ? Time to change the rules for voting.." Cuban wrote on his Twitter account.
The Mavs are in Philadelphia where they play the 76ers Friday night. Nowitzki was not immediately available for comment.
