DALLAS -- Jason Kidd, apparently the greatest 3-point shooter ever to play the game, buried one at the third-quarter buzzer to put the Mavs back in front, 74-72, in a see-saw battle at the AAC.

We all know the Lakers are on the second night of a back-to-back, but they had to be ready to play this game considering the Mavs' recent trade that's got the whole league talking -- including Kobe Bryant. And the Mavs are playing without two starters, center Erick Dampier (dislocated finger) and Caron Butler, who was a suprise scratch due to a reaction to medication.

The key was late in the first half when the Lakers went up 48-39. The Mavs needed to keep the deficit in single digits going into halftime. They chewed into the lead and trailed 50-49 at the half.

Jason Terry leads all scorers with 21 points. Dirk Nowitzki has 18, Jason Kidd has 12 and Shawn Marion has 10. Kobe goes into the fourth quarter with just 14 points on 7-of-17 shooting.
