Mavericks move up to No. 2 in West

The Dallas Mavericks rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit Monday to hand the Charlotte Bobcats just their eighth home loss of the season, 89-84. It was the Mavs' eighth consecutive win.

Combined with the Denver Nuggets' second straight loss, at the Phoenix Suns on Monday night, the Mavs moved up a spot in the Western Conference standings for the second night in a row. As one of four teams in the league with at least 40 wins, the Mavs reclaimed the No. 2 spot, sitting a half-game ahead of the Nuggets. Dallas is 5 1/2 games behind the West-leading Los Angeles Lakers.

Some interesting notes about the standings:

*The Mavs' 20 road wins lead the West.

*Among the West teams currently in the eight playoff spots, only the San Antonio Spurs (20-17 in the West) and Oklahoma City Thunder (17-17) have fewer conference wins and more conference losses than the Mavs (21-16).

*The Mavs' point differential of +2.2 is the lowest among West playoff teams.
