Haywood day-to-day; Wafer walks

DALLAS -- Center Brendan Haywood experienced stiffness in his lower back Friday morning and then tweaked it on the game's opening jump ball. He left for good after playing just seven minutes in the first quarter. Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said Haywood is day-to-day, leaving his status for Saturday night's game at Chicago uncertain.

If Haywood can't play, the Mavs would be left without a true center. Eduardo Najera and Shawn Marion played the position in a small lineup in Haywood's absence.

Also, shooting guard Von Wafer will no longer be with the Mavs, he confirmed Friday night. Wafer's 10-day contract expired after the game. He did not make an appearance in any game. It leaves the Mavs with two open roster spots.
