Both Mavs big men active

DALLAS -- The Mavs' big men are back.

Brendan Haywood and Erick Dampier will both be active tonight against the New Jersey Nets, although there is a chance that Dampier will decide not to play if warmups don't go well.

Coach Rick Carlisle's plan is to ease Dampier back into the mix.

"I wouldn't expect to throw him in for a ton of minutes right away," Carlisle said.

Dampier suffered an open dislocation of his right middle finger 22 days ago, an injury that required surgery the next day. He was hobbled the previous six weeks by a left knee effusion, which had him bouncing between ineffective and inactive.

The knee is no longer a concern, according to Carlisle. And it shouldn't be, since the presence of Haywood means the Mavs won't have to rely on Dampier to play heavy minutes.
