Butler's slump doesn't concern Carlisle
His offensive stats from the last three games: 8.3 ppg on 10-of-36 shooting. It's been a tough week for "Tuff Juice," to say the least.
But coach Rick Carlisle isn't worried about Butler's offense, as long as the swingman hustles.
"As long as he’s engaged in our process of playing, if he’s doing everything hard on defense and cutting hard and running the floor on offense, over a long stretch of games, all that is going to even out," Carlisle said. "No, I’m not worried about it."
And if Butler doesn't do everything hard on defense and cut hard and run the floor? Well, he'll get yanked from the game.
That goes for everybody, according to Carlisle. But he made an example out of Butler by benching him in the opening minute of the second half in Tuesday's win over the Clippers.
"I’m subbing based on energy, enthusiasm, effort, all that stuff," Carlisle said. "We had a couple of times tonight when guys didn’t run back. [Whistles.] They’re out of the game. We’ve got to have consistent effort all the time. We’ve got to have consistent engagement in what we’re doing."
If Butler does that, Carlisle figures the numbers will come.
