Jumper-happy Mavs didn't learn from mistakes

SAN ANTONIO -- Brendan Haywood might be new to Dallas, but he had no problem recognizing a problem that has cost the Mavs in many playoff games.

This team has been too jumper-happy for a decade.

That was the Mavs' biggest problem during their miserable first quarter, when they managed to score only eight points while digging double-digit hole. The Mavs were 4-of-18 from the floor and in the quarter failed to go to the free throw line.

"We didn’t learn from our mistakes," Haywood said. "Long, contested jump shots against the Spurs equals death.

"You’ve got to attack the rim, no matter if you’re getting calls or not. Put the onus on the officials to do something. If we just come down and settle for J’s, we’re going to lose. And we did."

Not sure how the rest of the Mavs will feel about getting critiqued by a guy who contributed two points in Game 6, but it's hard to argue against Haywood's point.
