Mavs grant ex-Tech star another shot
The Mavs will hold a minicamp Monday and Tuesday for undrafted players in last week's NBA draft as well as unemployed players looking for another shot in the Association. Those who impress the Mavs' brass could land a spot on the Summer League squad, joining Roddy Beaubois and first-round pick Dominique Jones in Las Vegas from July 9-18.
Two players expected to play for the Mavs are Harvard point guard Jeremy Lin and Saint Mary's center Omar Samhan.
Emmett, a Dallas native who starred at Carter High School, was taken 35th overall in the 2004 draft by Seattle, who traded his draft rights to Memphis.
He bounced around to several NBA teams but played in just eight total games with Charlotte. After some time in the D-League, Emmett has played in Belgium, France, Venezuela, China and Puerto Rico. At 28, he's likely looking at his last chance to make it in the NBA.
Also invited: SMU 6-9 forward Mouhammad Faye; 6-7 North Texas forward Eric Tramiel; Oklahoma guard Tony Crocker; Vanderbilt point guard Jermaine Beal of DeSoto; and 6-5 USC shooting guard Dwight Lewis.
* In other news, former NBA player and Baylor star David Wesley will join Nancy Lieberman's staff with the Texas Legends. The Legends are the Mavs' D-League affiliate that begins play this fall.
