Dallas Mavericks center Tyson Chandler is one of 15 finalists who will move on to New York City with Team USA. Three more cuts will be made before the final roster is set for the FIBA World Championships next month in Turkey.

USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo and coach Mike Krzyzewski trimmed the roster by four Wednesday. Those not making the cut were: O.J. Mayo, Gerald Wallace, Tyreke Evans and center JaVale McGee.

Chandler and Brook Lopez are the only centers remaining and the 7-foot-1 Chandler is by far the more experienced, including in international competition. He was a member of the 2007 USA squad that participated in the FIBA Americas Championship and finished 10-0 to win gold and qualify the U.S. for the Beijing Olympics.

In Team USA's scrimmage earlier in the week, Chandler posted 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.

"He's much stronger than he was in 2007 and I thought he played well," Krzyzewski said Wednesday on a conference call. "He does all the things to compliment our perimeter players, so he has a chance to be really important for us." .

Chandler, acquired by the Mavs in a trade earlier this month, will face new teammates Roddy Beaubois and Ian Mahinmi when the U.S. plays France in exhibigtion on Aug. 15 at Madison Square Garden.
